About the BPH

The in-service Bachelors in Public health up-gradation programme is a two year full time course. This programme was launched in April 2010. The specific objectives of the programme are to up-grade and to produce health workers who will provide the leadership in health at the district and BHUs to:



  • Empower people to take care of their own health needs.

  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.

  • Manage information and their use in making evidence based decisions and interventions.

  • Plan, implement and evaluate public health programs.

  • Build partnerships and collaborations with relevant agencies.

  • Promote health and prevent disease, injuries and disabilities.

  • Think systematically and critically in their everday duties.

The course curriculum has 20 modules with 5 modules of 12 credits each in every semester. The target group of learners will be mainly from the Basic Health Units i.e Health Assistants and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and from the districts and hospitals(Assistant District Health Officers, Assistant Clinical Officers and Programme officers).
