The 3 core roles of any institutions of higher learning be it a university, colleges or institute are-

The intended benefits are-
1. Ministry of Health – expanding their health promotion activities
2. Community – heightened awareness of health issues, risk identification, community participation
3. Institute – students will get opportunity to interact with the community early in their training and learn more about health promotion. They can also put into practice what they have learned.
Community Service Programme
General objectives
To promote general health and awareness on healthy life styles issues in communities around Institute.
Specific objectives
1. To promote health of the community through health education on healthy life style, nutrition, family planning, prevention of STI/HIV/AIDS, sanitation and hygiene and substance abuse.
2. Risk identification of life style related diseases through measurement of blood pressure, height and weight (BMI).
3. To enhance role, image and awareness of the Institute through the community services and build relationship with the communities.
4. To encourage community participation.
5. To provide additional learning experiences for our trainees in health related issues as well as dealing with communities early in their training period.
6. Create awareness on importance of Physical activity and healthy diets
Strategies
1. Conduct fortnightly mass cleaning and health checkups camps in public places where vulnerable and marginalized populations are located like labour camps, school and institutions.
2. Provide health education and disseminate health information materials.
3. Conduct BP, height and weight measurements and refer those with risk to hospital.
4. Involve local communities in clean up campaigns, to encourage ownership or community empowerment.
5. Checking of random sugar level for those with risk factors.
